Shobudani Gosenryo-yama Mizu Asagi 1288g – Rare Hard-Grade Finishing Stone

This is a rare Shobudani Gosenryo-yama Mizu Asagi natural finishing whetstone (Awasedo) from Kyoto, Japan.
Weight / Size: 1288 g, 205 × 75 × 35 mm.

The name Gosenryo-yama comes from the old saying: “This mountain is worth five thousand ryō,” reflecting its historical value and prestige among Japanese whetstones.

This is a hard-grade Mizu Asagi, producing a distinctive misty hazy finish, slightly different from the mirror-like polish of Nakayama stones. It reacts strongly with steel, creating both a sharp edge and refined aesthetic.

The back and sides are sealed with Cashew lacquer for enhanced durability and long-term preservation.

Ideal for professional use—especially for fine kitchen knives—this stone is considered one of the finest examples from the Shobudani mines, combining excellent sharpening performance with historical and collector value.
