Natural Whetstone Ōhira Akapin 2636g | Made in Japan, Kyoto, Shohonyama
Ōhira Akapin – 2636 g (approx. 300 × 150 × 40–28 mm) | Tokkyū Grade, No-Suji
An authentic Japanese Whetstone (Natural Whetstone) from the Ōhira mine in Kyoto’s Shohonyama region — known for producing some of Japan’s most prestigious Finishing Stones.
This Rare Stone Akapin Suita is a Tokkyū (Special Grade) piece with a clean No-Suji (line-free) surface, exceptional balance, and vivid reddish tones that deepen beautifully when wet.
An extra-large stone, it weighs 2636 g and was originally sold as a premium-grade whetstone, still bearing its original retail tag of ¥108,000.
The base has been precisely cut flat for stability, while the natural kawa (skin) has been preserved on the sides, showcasing the authentic texture of raw Ōhira stone.
Medium in hardness, it generates a rich, creamy slurry that provides excellent bite, fast cutting, and a gentle cloudy kasumi finish.
It offers outstanding control and tactile feedback, making it ideal for Knife Sharpening, Tool Sharpening, Woodworking Tools, Chisel Stones, and razors.
Stones of this monumental size and Tokkyū quality from Ōhira are exceptionally rare, standing as both a top-tier professional whetstone and a collectible showpiece.
