Vintage Ohara Futoshi Japanese Plane: 70mm Sunpachi Kanna, Red Oak Handle, Showa Era Deadstock
This is a vintage Japanese plane (Kanna) signed by Ohara Futoshi (大原 太).
It has a 70mm Sunpachi blade width, the most popular size among Japanese planes.
This piece is labeled Gokujo (極上 / Excellent Grade) and fitted with a durable red oak handle with small ferrule (赤樫小口入).
Made in the late Showa period (1970s–1980s), this is an unused deadstock plane, preserved in its original paper box.
It still retains the original price tag of ¥16,000 from the era—at that time considered a premium-grade hand plane, equivalent to several tens of thousands of yen today.
