Natural Whetstone Atagoyama Awasedo 2625g | Made in Japan, Kyoto, Shohonyama
Atagoyama Awasedo – 2625 g (approx. 218 × 83 × 62 mm) | Shohonyama Tokusen Stamped
An authentic Japanese Whetstone (Natural Whetstone) from Kyoto’s Atagoyama mine, part of the prestigious Shohonyama region celebrated for producing Japan’s finest Finishing Stones.
This Rare Stone Awasedo originally bore two important stamps — “Shohonyama Awasedo” and “Tokusen” (Special Selection) — official designations from the Kyoto Natural Whetstone Association or an affiliated traditional dealer.
These stamps represented formal grading under the Shohonyama system, certifying the stone as meeting the highest standards of performance and quality, regardless of its specific quarry.
The surface has been professionally lapped for optimal performance, which naturally removed the stamps, but provenance remains assured, supported by the included pre-lapping photo.
Medium-hard in texture, the stone provides smooth tactile feedback and strong polishing ability, producing a clean, refined finish suitable for high-end kitchen knives, chisels, and plane blades.
The back and sides are sealed with Ishisan (water-based protective coating) for durability and long-term preservation.
