Natural Whetstone Karasu 1909g | Made in Japan, Kyoto, Shohonyama
Shohonyama Karasu – 1909 g (approx. 205 × 83 × 47 mm) | 30-Kiri Soft Finishing Stone
An authentic Japanese Whetstone (Natural Whetstone) from Kyoto’s Shohonyama region — home to Japan’s most refined and collectible Finishing Stones.
This Rare Stone Karasu (烏砥) was cut from old stock in the 30-Kiri format, prized for its balance of thickness, stability, and traditional hand-cut proportion.
The surface displays a vivid Karasu (crow-like) pattern across a soft cloudy base, typical of high-quality Shohonyama stones.
Soft to medium in hardness, it offers gentle tactile feedback, fast slurry formation, and a smooth, consistent sharpening feel that produces a fine, hazy (kasumi) finish.
Natural suji (lines) are visible but do not affect sharpening performance.
The back and sides are sealed with Ishisan (water-based protective coating) for durability and long-term preservation.
