Natural Whetstone Karasu 2085g | Made in Japan, Kyoto, Shohonyama
Shohonyama Karasu – 2085 g (approx. 210 × 77 × 52 mm) | Extra-Thick 30-Kiri Cloudy Finishing Stone
An authentic Japanese Whetstone (Natural Whetstone) from Kyoto’s Shohonyama region — long celebrated for producing Japan’s most beautiful and high-performing Finishing Stones.
This Rare Stone Karasu (烏砥) was cut from old stock in the 30-Kiri extra-thick format, designed for long-term professional use and superior stability during sharpening.
Its surface displays bold crow-like black Karasu patterns set against a soft cloudy base (kumori-kei), giving the stone a calm yet dramatic aesthetic.
Soft to medium-soft in hardness, it provides a smooth, forgiving sharpening touch while generating a fine, misty finish — ideal for subtle kasumi-style polishing.
Natural suji (lines) are present but do not affect sharpening performance.
Both the top and bottom surfaces have been professionally lapped, allowing use on either side.
The sides are sealed with Ishisan (water-based protective coating) to prevent cracking and water absorption.
