Maruoyama Hon-Tomae – 2123 g (approx. 220 × 79 × 51 mm) | 24-Size | Tokkyū Grade (Excellent)
An authentic Japanese Natural Whetstone (Awasedo) from Maruoyama, Kyoto — a highly regarded Hon-Tomae layer stone, originally sold by the respected whetstone dealer To-Tori-Ya (砥取家).
Purchased for ¥130,000, this piece reflects To-Tori-Ya’s trusted standard of quality and careful selection.
Although the stamp is partially worn, it remains a verified and genuine To-Tori-Ya stone.
Medium-hard, well-balanced, and perfect for kitchen knife sharpening — it raises slurry naturally without Nagura or diamond plates, providing a smooth, creamy sharpening feel and a bright, even kasumi finish.
Characteristic of Maruoyama quarry stones, this piece shows straight grain alignment and an extremely fine texture, producing a quick, controlled edge response.
A well-preserved Hon-Tomae that captures the refined cutting feel Kyoto stones are famous for.
