This authentic Nakayama Tomae comes from the renowned Nakayama Mine in Kyoto, Japan.
This whetstone was quarried from the historic Chūsei (Medieval) area of the Nakayama Mine in Umegahata, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, where natural whetstones are believed to have been mined since the Kamakura period. It was sourced directly from Sazare Meito.
This rare, suji-free specimen features a hard, ultra-fine abrasive structure that delivers excellent steel bite and sharpening performance, producing an exceptionally sharp edge with a beautiful refined finish. It is suitable for the final sharpening of a wide variety of edged tools.
Condition: Unused. Professionally lapped and ready for use. Suji-free, with no major chips or cracks. The sides and bottom have been sealed with Ishisan protective coating.
