A genuine Japanese Whetstone (Natural Whetstone) from the now-closed Ōhira mine in Kyoto — part of the legendary Shohonyama region, long celebrated for its world-class Finishing Stones.
This Sharpening Stone features a beautiful suminagashi (floating ink) pattern with flowing textures across the surface, making it not only a high-performance Rare Stone but also a Collectible piece of natural art.
With medium to slightly hard hardness, it offers strong abrasive power and a refined, smooth sharpening feel.
It produces a fine, creamy slurry and a misty kasumi finish, perfect for Knife Sharpening and delicate polishing work.
The surface is lapped flat and chamfered, and the sides and back are sealed with Ishisan (water-based protective sealant) for preservation and durability.
