Shohonyama Sō-Renge Suita – 1031 g (approx. 200 × 68 × 35 mm) | Soft Finishing Stone with Subtle Fragrance
An authentic Japanese Whetstone (Natural Whetstone) from Kyoto’s Shohonyama region — the heart of Japan’s traditional Finishing Stones (Awasedo).
This Sō-Renge Suita (総蓮華巣板) is a rare type, its entire surface covered with delicate lotus-flower (renge) patterns, giving it both striking visual beauty and high collectible value.
Soft in hardness, it produces a rich slurry with smooth, consistent sharpening feedback, creating a refined and misty kasumi finish.
When raising slurry, a subtle perfume-like fragrance emerges — a refined and rare trait among natural stones (note: scent perception is subjective).
Some natural suji (lines) are present, but they do not affect sharpening performance.
The back and sides are sealed with Ishisan (water-based protective coating) for stability, durability, and long-term preservation.
