Natural Whetstone Renge Suita 678g | Made in Japan, Kyoto, Shohonyama
Renge Suita – 678 g (approx. 156 × 80 × 26 mm) | Soft, Slightly Coarse Finishing Stone with Subtle Fragrance
An authentic Japanese Natural Whetstone (Natural Whetstone / Awasedo) quarried from Kyoto’s renowned Ōhira mine, one of the most respected within the Shohonyama region.
This Renge Suita (蓮華巣板) features elegant lotus-flower patterns and offers the distinct soft-yet-textured sharpening feel that defines early-cut Ōhira Suita stones.
Soft with a slightly coarse touch, it provides smooth and responsive sharpening feedback, generating slurry easily and producing a natural kasumi (misty) finish. It is especially well-suited for kitchen knives, offering excellent control and tactile feedback.
A unique characteristic of this piece is its subtle natural fragrance when slurry is raised — a refined and rare feature that enhances its collectible value among natural stone enthusiasts.
The back and sides are sealed with Ishisan (traditional water-based protective coating) to ensure stability, durability, and moisture resistance.
