Natural Whetstone Tamba Aoto 3935g | Medium Stone | | Made in Japan, Kyoto, Okahana Kameoka
Authentic Japanese Natural Whetstone from Okahana, Kameoka, Kyoto.
This Tamba Aoto features a deep blue-black surface with numerous distinctive goma speckles. Unlike typical Aoto, this stone is very hard and is recommended for use with a nagura stone to achieve its best sharpening performance.
Weighing an impressive 3,935 g, this is an exceptionally large example of Okahana Tamba Aoto. Part of the original natural split surface has been preserved during shaping, giving the stone a unique natural character while maintaining excellent usability.
This stone was purchased directly from the mining operator of Okahana Tamba Aoto before the quarry ceased production. Today, stones of this size and quality have become extremely difficult to obtain. It is well suited for kitchen knives, chisels, plane blades, and other woodworking tools.
