Shohonyama Shirosuita – 883 g (approx. 150 × 82 × 35 mm) | Soft Finishing Stone with Natural Script-Like Pattern
This is an authentic Shohonyama Shirosuita (白巣板) natural finishing whetstone from Kyoto, Japan, weighing 883 g.
A rare and fascinating specimen, this stone displays mysterious script-like markings on its side surface—resembling human handwriting. After carefully shaving about 2 mm from the side, the markings remained completely unchanged, confirming that they are natural geological formations within the stone itself.
Such naturally occurring patterns that mimic writing are extremely rare, representing a true miracle of nature and a unique example of Kyoto’s deep geological artistry.
As a soft-grade Suita, it provides smooth sharpening feedback, fast slurry generation, and an excellent finish for kitchen knives and woodworking tools.
The back and sides are sealed with Ishisan (traditional water-based protective coating) to ensure durability and moisture resistance.
